Feather on The Beach

Not sure which beach this was taken at but is was along the shores of Lake Michigan somewhere between Bronzeville in Chicago and Racine Wisconsin. Taken probably during my 2016 walk from point to point. I was at an assisted living facility and it wasn't my thing. Since I went in voluntarily I requested an AMA . Against Medical Advice leave of place paperwork...and got it. This was my second sojourn into homelessness and I can't quite recall if this was before or after the Dakotas trip. Memory fails me. I was released and I knew to go to Racine because of the coffee at the Hospitality center and good food. I had my windows phone and a zazzle paycheck. Roughly 100$. Cigarette money for a month. I loved smoking, but it is horrible for you. I just quit this month. No way around it. Had to. Apartments in low income I am applying for don't allow it except in the parking lot and I was at two packs a day. I am working with my doctor on it and doing just fine. Spending more time working too. However, if I made enough money I'd probably smoke again. I am kinda reckless.
So I walked from Chicago south along the lake shore, in a northern direction, which is easy you just keep the Lake on your right. Somewhere in Evanston I found a beach to sleep on. I had gotten a few supplies like smokes a lighter, a spare phone and some concentrated coffee in squeeze bottles to add to water so I could have my morning coffee on the go. I had a couple of paper cups too. It was twilight and the breeze was nice. It was summer I remember or early fall. I slept soundly on the cool sand. Now when I awoke was the only time in my two years of sleeping homeless outside, that I ever was robbed. Only time. You know what they took? My coffee. They went through my purse and emptied the whole squeeze bottle of coffee. I could tell because it was empty and lying next to the second paper cup. I was dumbfounded. Well, I guess they really needed some coffee. Coffee is very important to the homeless. They don't get a lot of sleep. I think I took this photograph on that beach. Just a feather in the sand.
