Sept. 20, 1945

       Darling,

Gee there are about 347 things to tell you but if everything goes alright we’ll be in Silver Palming pretty soon.

      I didn’t

T get your address before I left Alamogordo and there hasn’t been any mail forwarded here since then so I didn’t know where to write to.  So you’ll walk into the house after two weeks and there’ll be this letter.  You’re probably reading it right now.  See, what did I tell you.

How was your vacation?  Did you have a good time?  Was the weather good?  Was there moon light and soft music?  Well gee honey, let’s hear about it.

It sure feels good to be cold again.  I was getting so used to the desert that I forgot about trees and grass and cool breezes.  Just built a fire in our pot bellied stove and the heat feels nice.  It’s cool and brisk outside and once in awhile I feel quite lively.

We flew out of Alamogordo last Friday and ended up here in Salina.  There’s a Bomb Group being formed here and we are to be part of it.  The bestest rumor is that we are going to Europe.  Isn’t that a pistol?  I’m on a different crew again and haven’t met all of the fellows yet.  There hasn't been any definitive shipping date so we are all supposed too get leaves.  Half the gang left yesterday and we have to wait till they get back.  If everything goes O.K.  I should be home around the seventh of October.  See that guy you know and order seven sunshiny days, will ya?

Ya know it seems like months since I’ve heard from you and years since I’ve seen you.  Won’t it be swell if we can have seven days together again?  Gee!!  It’s exciting thinking about it.  You’re exciting to think about.  I hope it’s not cold because then we’d have to wear gloves, and if we wear gloves holding hands won’t be half as much fun.  I like to meander down the street holding hands.  Maybe taking your arm is more dignified but holding hands is more fun.  Of course if you’d rather, I’d take your arms, gee aw shucks!!

As soon as you get settled and rested how about telling me all about your adventures?  I’m sort of anxious to hear from you.  It’s been so long.  Did you save your ticket stub from Pennsylvania RR.  If so, wrap it beautifully and send it to Myles.  They think I’m silly too.  Older people sure are difficult, aren't they?  When they call us silly and foolish that means they like us.  If they said we were sensible and dignified they’d be disappointed in us.  Beats me!

We’re scheduled to fly this afternoon.  If possible I’m going to navigate up to Chicago and then up to Mackinac.  If you heard some engines roaring Thursday night that was me.  I’d drop a note to you only it’s against regulations.  Anyway, I’ll be closer to you.

Gotta get ready now.  Write quick darling.  Be seeing you.

I  Love You

Ray
