June 21, 1968

This day is opposite of previous - lousy - weather bad.  We have the four seasons in one day.  Are equipped with raincoats and umbrellas.

After our nice fall breakfast off to our city S. S. Tour.  Have the small dark-haired guide again. Good, bus is packed.  Tourists noisy and unattentive.  Even guide is nervous.  Everywhere we go is swarming with tourists and this ruins things.  Can’t hear or see.  We go to Westminster and cloisters but service detains us.  Also we can hardly keep up with guide.  We are pointed out the various things of interest.  See the changing of the guard. That is what we can of it.  Ray again holds a little English boy on his shoulders.  Name of David.  Bus drops us off.  Grab taxi to make the roast beef pudding lunch at Alberts. We go on our S S tour to St Pauls.  Great again but it is maddeningly crowded.  Guide has to talk in both English and German.  SS trip is all fouled up and at Tower of London we suddenly leave group and buy a guide book to try to go on our own.  We go in west gate tower see bloody tower, bell tower, armor museum, etc. etc. Go to see crown jewels and they have it all different but better for viewing.  Afterwards we walk across on London Bridge.   The last time for certainty as one side is down already.

Have cakes at a dirty place.  Take double decker bus back.  Grab cabby to Earls Count to try to find chicken place.  Can’t find it and sat at old Kentucky restaurant.  Chicken not so good.  Walk home in the miserable weather and climb into the awful beds.  Day not a total loss, but disappointing.
